In contrast to our previous story, in Chicago, a local judge ordered a hospital to “stand aside” and let a retired contractor’s doctor administer Ivermectin, after which he dramatically improved and quickly came off the ventilator. Mr. Sun Hg, originally from Hong Kong, got COVID and was near death in a Chicago-area hospital, at that point all other options had been exhausted, but the hospital refused to give him Ivermectin, even though his doctor recommended it.

The hospital, Edward Hospital, made three arguments why the 71-year-old grandfather shouldn’t get Ivermectin. First, the hospital said there could be “side effects,” Worse than imminent death? Second, Ivermectin is prohibited by hospital policy not science. Third, forcing the issue would be “extraordinary judicial overreach.” I’m guessing they were arguing that it violated the “patient-doctor relationship”, I’m guessing they didn’t see the irony in this, given they were superseding what the Mr. Hg’s own doctor was recommending.

But the judge (who should be given a medal) disagreed. In a zoom hearing, Judge Fullerton stated:
“I am not forcing this hospital to do anything other than to step aside. I am just asking—or not asking—I am ordering through the Court’s power to allow Dr. Bain to have the emergency privileges and administer this medicine … The risks of [Ivermectin’s] side effects are so minimal that Mr. Ng’s current situation outweighs that risk by one-hundredfold.”

Dr. Alan Bain then gave Mr. Ng a five-day course of 24 milligrams of ivermectin, from November 8 through November 12. Mr. Ng could breathe without a ventilator within five days and removed the endotracheal himself. He left the ICU on November 16.
